I’ll be speaking in Sydney on Tuesday March 15th on building your own Agile methodology.  As usual, Joel will be joining me.

The Agile Buffet Table: Implementing your own Agile Process  with Microsoft ALM Tools

New to Agile? Having challenges implementing an agile process in your organization? Have you been using Scrum, but need to bend the rules to make it work in your organization? Can’t get the business to “buy-in”? Come and learn about implementing an agile process in your organization. You'll look at the “buffet table” of agile processes and procedures and learn how to properly decide “what to eat.”  We’ll start by defining XP, Scrum, Kanban and some other popular methodologies and then learn how to mix and match each process for various scenarios, including the enterprise, ISVs, consulting, and remote teams. Then take a look at agile tools and how they will aid in implementing your development process. You’ll see how Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2010 provides process templates for Agile that facilitate better planning and metrics. Learn how Microsoft’s application lifecycle management (ALM) tools can support your development process. Lastly, we will talk about how to “sell” agile to your business partners and customers. The speakers have a very interactive style so participation is encouraged and there will be plenty of time for Q&A.

When I was at TechEd Europe in Berlin last November, I sat down with my old friends from DotnetMania in Spain and chatted about Telerik, the cloud (I pimp SQL Azure besides Windows Azure!), developer tools, and also what it means to be a writer (first magazine articles then blogs) and speaking at conferences. I also explain what a Chief Strategy Officer is (I get that a lot) and have a great conversation about R&D and entrepreneurship.

Pay attention, I tell how and when I made the move from VB to C#. It is a bit geeky. Winking smile I also touch on the HTML5 v Silverlight debate (which was a hot topic back last November.) We finish up with a walk down memory lane to dispel the hype that we will “write once, run many” with HTML5.

Hack-Proofing your ASP.NET Web Forms & MVC Web Applications

Subject: You must register at https://www.clicktoattend.com/invitation.aspx?code=152043 in order to be admitted to the building and attend.

Security is an afterthought with most developers. Easy hacking is a common problem with many web applications. This presentation explores the most common attacks on web applications, how they work to exploit your app, and more importantly, how to protect against them. Techniques such as Cross Site Scripting, Sql Injection, Session Hijacking, and Cross Site Request Forgery, and more will be covered. ASP.Net and MVC will both be covered as MVC has some separate concerns than standard ASP.Net applications. We will start with a 'broken' application and secure it throughout the presentation. Attendees will be taken through various tools, techniques, and libraries to help protect their applications.

Speaker: Adam Tuliper, Cegedim

Adam has been developing software for a variety of industries for over 15 years. He started his work in security and reverse engineering in the software protection field. This gave him a foundation for learning the internals of other technologies from Win32 systems to CLR systems. Adam has performed security audits and penetration tests for large corporations and small companies alike. He has been deeply involved in .Net internals since early beta and currently works as a Software Architect for Cegedim developing with WCF, ASP.Net, Sql Server, MVC, C#, and Silverlight. He enjoys helping people secure their code and solve difficult issues.

S.A. Developer.net

January 2011 – Building RESTful Applications with the Open Data Protocol

Please join us for an interesting session presented by Stephen Forte

Overview:

Applications today are expected to expose their data and consume data-centric services via REST. In this session we discuss what REST is and have an overview of WCF Data Services and see how we can REST enable your data using the Open Data Protocol (OData). Then you will learn how to leverage existing skills in Visual Studio, LINQ and data access to customize the behavior, control-flow, security model and experience of your data service. We will then see how to enable data-binding to traditional ASP.NET controls as well as Silverlight. We’ll look at other consumers of oData including SQL Server PowerPivot for Excel, wrapping up the session by talking about consuming other OData based applications in .NET as well talk about a non-Microsoft client. This is a very demo intensive session..
